Before & After $30 Thrift Store Headboard!

I was lucky enough to find this King Sized headboard at the thrift store for $30! I used The Primitive Life Organic Milk Paint in "Skillet" and transformed it into this picture perfect headboard for our new bedroom!

 

It was very simple! First I cleaned the headboard with warm soap and water and a sponge, just to get any germs off, I sprayed with Lysol...then lightly sanded it with medium sandpaper,wiped it down and painted. It took about 15 minutes to paint. After I let it dry for a couple of hours, I sanded it lightly in areas where I wanted it to look "distressed". That's it! Total time about 3 hours. If I can do it, anyone can!

Day 2 Primitive Kitchen Redo...what were we thinking?

TIRED...just getting home after a long day. Cabinets are cleaned, sanded and painted. The wood counter top has been sanded, wood filled and sanded again, caulked then stained. The entire kitchen has been painted with a lovely Valspar historically inspired color from Lowe's, Cinncinatian Hotel.

Here's some pictures, much more to do, but it is coming along.

The cabinets are painted in The Primitive Life Milk Paint in the color "Beets".

I just love the way the color of the counters look with this old frame and photo. I can't wait to get done and decorate! Right now though...time for bed!

Primitive Kitchen Redo on a budget!

We have made the grand decision to redo the kitchen in the apartment above the shop this weekend! The words, brave, courageous and fearless come to mind! The apartment has been inhabited by three college age boys for the past year so you can imagine...
Here is a before picture. Note the lovely plywood cabinetry, cracked tile counters and all around horrible planning of this kitchen. My husband has his worked cut out for him!

By the way...I won't be keeping the fabulous Asian artifacts either...are you surprised?
We will be transforming this kitchen though on a tight budget using "found" previously used cabinets that we will be painting with The Primitive Life Milk Paint , adding custom wood countertops and enlarging the work area and counterspace by removing that ill planned bar that juts out.
I will share some "During" photos as well as an "After" once complete! Stay tuned!

A delightful new customer, Rebecca, came to the shop and purchsed these:

 She went home and turned them into this!

 WONDERFUL!

Rebecca was kind of enough to share them with us and her story:

"Dear When Pigs Fly Again Store,
I purchased the three antique garden picket fences on Tuesday on a day trip to Mount Dora, and I decided to use them as frames for vintage family photographs. I delved into antique family albums and the backs of drawers to find these images- some are from the late 1800s in Chile, and some are from the 1970s in Ohio, and the others are from all of the years and places in between!
I fixed up the picket fences by white washing them and then applying a light matte clear coat for protection. I then scanned copies of the old photos and adhered a firm backing to them; I used adhesive dots to stick the edges of the pictures to the picket stakes. The final step was putting the quote "I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where..." (by Pablo Neruda) across the bottoms of the picket. It was fitting because these are pictures of my paternal and maternal grandparents, and even two sets of great-grandparents, as well as pics of my parents when they were very young- I didn't know any of them when these pictures were taken, and I may not know the how, or when, or where of their lives, but I love them as family. When you think about it, it's pretty remarkable how people come together- there's always a serendipitous story of how we came to be.
I plan on hanging them in the formation shown in the second picture in my college dorm room. The attached pics don't quite do them justice- I love them even more in person! I can't wait to see what they look like on my wall! Thank you so much for the picket fences that started my inspiration to rediscover these beautiful pictures, and family stories!
